After spending a month and a half sick in bed, I had plenty of time to think of all kinds of things; my upcoming workload (that I PRAYED I’d be healthy for), the growing amount of chores to do before baby came, the day to day abilities I’d previously taken for granted… and my own maternity session. I had a picture in my mind of warm daylight, greenery, florals, (Nikolle did the perfect arrangement for me!) a white nightgown maybe? And then one day I happened to notice one in my mom’s closet. I tried it on, and it was JUST what I imagined.
Being a maternity photographer myself, I am somehow simultaneously super nitpicky, and super chill about our photos. My friend Kirstie was the only Okotoks area photographer I trusted to bring my very specific dream to life…and oh, did she ever.
You know how you usually imagine a project, a session, a piece of art in your mind, and it almost always falls short of what you envisioned?
This was the opposite. The evening was perfect; the kids were extra sweet, the weather cooperated. This was everything I could have hoped for, and more. I texted Kirstie shortly after and told her they were my favourite photos of us, ever. They felt so warm, so relaxed, and while of course, the outfits and the clothesline were staged…they felt so US.
So here are some of the ones I love most – photographed by my dear dear friend, and edited by myself.
